Organic Chemistry Teachers and the Importance of Using a YouTube Organic Chemistry Tutor

Organic Chemistry Teachers and the Importance of Using a YouTube Organic Chemistry TutorHow YouTube Tutors helps a student improve his or her organic chemistry test scores in the NBDE? Or, how can organic chemistry teachers use the huge library of videos in the online video site to their advantage? In this brief article I'm going to discuss what the best organic chemistry teachers use YouTube as a teaching tool, and the effect that is having on their students. I'll also discuss the value of using a tutor to help students who are struggling with the subject.Let's start by reviewing how a good organic chemistry tutor might be useful. The main reason that students sometimes struggle with organic chemistry is simply because they're not getting enough practice. One way that a tutor can help students is by providing a regular set of chemistry practice problems, which is usually provided free of charge by the teacher. The organic chemistry teacher doesn't have to put his own videos on YouTub e. They can just work with one that is already there - for example, a science curriculum website. When a student completes a problem set, he/she can take the next in the series and, if they haven't yet done it, they can go to a chemistry tutor who has done this problem set.The reason that I'm suggesting that a teacher use YouTube for a chemistry practice problem set is that it isn't hard to come up with a set of questions, and it's pretty easy to put them on YouTube. If you take a look at any high school chemistry course, you'll see that the teacher will spend hours in front of the blackboard, going over the same problems over again. And the student just has to keep studying, so they'll never get to the end. What is hard for a student to do is just get through the process of seeing a video, thinking 'I've got to study this', then, sitting down, learning it and reviewing it. And this is precisely the kind of practice that the organic chemistry tutor can provide. How can the organic che mistry tutor help a student improve his or her NBDE? By sharing their problem sets with their students, and helping them understand how their students are doing. After all, if they don't know how the student is doing, how can they help them? The important thing to remember when a student uses a tutor to help him or her with organic chemistry is that the organic chemistry tutor has also written and published many problems and solutions for organic chemistry - and will help you to read those as well. So, you could use these as reference material for your own questions, and from which you can draw your own conclusions about the other materials you've seen. This method of teaching is great for the organic chemistry tutor, as well as for the student. It's much easier to reach out to your students, even if they're only one or two level behind. All in all, this method of teaching really is the most effective way to get students to take chemistry at their own pace.

Report Your Income on Taxes - How To Earn More From Your Tax-Free Income

Report Your Income on Taxes - How To Earn More From Your Tax-Free IncomeCan you report your income on taxes without feeling any awkwardness? These days, people are working on finding ways to save money and be more at ease with the tax system. One way to do this is to increase your income in the form of a tax free or small pay check. One simple way to increase your income is to teach some courses in a tutoring program or other educational environment. Yes, if you already have a college degree, you can do this job as well. But for those who don't have formal training, why not use a free alternative for yourself. How does this work?Basically, you will be getting paid from someone else's taxes for doing what you enjoy. This is a better alternative than working and taking the daily grind in a cubicle, making no money and working at your feet. This is how you earn money without the usual tax troubles. It has been proven that an increase in income is a better option than having to pay an IRS audit or paying an extra minimum tax payment. You can get your benefits by using free software for income verification programs. In some cases, the IRS may even give you a letter in which they said you can report your income for yourself. This means that you get a credit of your income and the amount has to be reported to the IRS.You will only have to pay a certain amount and in some cases, a percentage of your income. And, after a certain period of time, the government gives you an income credit in the form of a refund check. There are certain income verification software and programs out there for sale on the internet that help you in gathering information about your income and you can also learn more about it. So, you can find the details of the income you earn with reporting income on taxes. You will need the records of your payments to your classes as well as your income statement to make a good estimate of the amount of your earnings.Using the software, you can increase your in come and report it to the IRS without having to worry about the IRS audit. Try this method to reduce the burden of filing the taxes and avoid any embarrassing issues that may occur.

Geopolitics Around the World

Geopolitics Around the World How do Geopolitics Shape Our World? ChaptersWhat Are Geopolitics?Geopolitics in AfricaGeopolitics in the Middle EastEuropean GeopoliticsGeopolitics in RussiaAsian GeopoliticsGeopolitics in Latin AmericaWe humans are social animals. Being social â€" interacting and cooperating in spite of our differences, has everything to do with ensuring our continued survival.A part of what shapes our experiences is the environment we live in: the resources available and how they are employed, whether nations covet riches in lands not theirs and how such conflicts are resolved. The definition of politics includes ‘... the debate or conflict among individuals having or hoping to achieve power.’How does that definition change when placing the prefix 'geo-' in front of 'politics'?Today, countries don’t (necessarily) engage in the use of force to access riches enjoyed by people in other lands â€" and thus gain power. We tend to settle transnational disputes or come to an arrangement for sharing resources through mediation and trade a greements.Still, the foundation for both the disputes and the resolutions lies largely in the resources that can be brought to the table. When seen from that aspect, geography plays a large part in the politics of today. But just how far-reaching is geopolitics? Can one nation have an impact on a country that is not its immediate neighbour? And which lands hold the riches that would make it a world power? Now, we look at global geopolitics as well as the geopolitics of individual regions; the effects of such politics and the prospective benefits to humankind’s future.Government: internal policy issues, economic policy, foreign policies and how they manage rivalries with other countries and within their borders.Does economics play a role in geopolitics? Find out in our full-length article on the subject...Geopolitics in AfricaHaving thrown off the shackles of European colonialism only in the last 70 years or so, the nations that make up the world’s second-largest continent are stil l trying to find their way onto the global political stage. While relations between African nations are mostly neutral, some countries have risen up against authoritarian regimes, causing their internal politics to endure seismic shifts in power.Strangely enough, while the great powers of the world cast anxious (or covetous) eyes on other global political hotspots such as the Middle East and Latin America, in Africa, it is only the most dramatic incursions that seem to make headlines. The tensions in African nations have little to do with global security or world politics... yet. There is one superpower that has taken a special interest in developing countries in Africa. It is providing funding opportunities and helping to build up infrastructure.Find out who that global power is in our African geopolitics article.Political instability in the Middle East is no longer due solely to religious affiliation Image by Sharon Ang from PixabayGeopolitics in the Middle EastThe region we refer to as the Middle East is actually on the Eurasian continent. Nevertheless, in geopolitical terms, that collection of countries is thought of as an entity in its own right. And quite correctly, too! Many of the world’s affairs centre on Middle Eastern countries; in part because they account for nearly 70% of the world’s petroleum supply.Another, far less flattering reason that Middle Eastern affairs are so closely scrutinised is that some of the doctrines born in that region have a dramatic impact on international security. To date, the Islamic State has done more to cause chaos in the Middle East as well as elsewhere in the world, including causing friction between Turkey and Egypt, both of whom are considered emerging powers.Strategic studies reveal that their unique geographic position â€" the link between East Asia, Africa and Europe provides each of those nations with the ability to destabilise the entire region’s balance of power. Thus, those states, even though they are only m arginally included in international affairs, bear heavy influence on our current world order.Who is the great power of the Middle East region?Although the Iran nuclear deal that the Obama administration brokered currently has the spotlight in Middle East politics, the real mastermind of global politics... is revealed in our companion article on the subject.France and Germany, in particular, have crafted a balancing of power, with Germany considered the economic leader and France’s president actively courting international relations through his uncanny use of soft power. In fact, so adept have these two political leaders become at managing their interdependence that their combined political clout actually threatens the global American hegemony! When you think of their relationship from a historical perspective, it might seem odd that France’s former invader would be so warmly embraced. And what standing will the UK have in their international policy once our exit from the European U nion is finalised?Would you like to take a closer look at how Europe's unique dynamic evolved from being competing powers to becoming world leaders in international politics? Will the UK leaving the European Union weaken its global standing? Image by Adam Derewecki from PixabayGeopolitics in RussiaNaturally, not all is rosy in Europe, especially Eastern Europe. Many of those countries are still struggling to build a competitive economy and, after years of being controlled by their larger neighbour, finding their place in the international system of politics.Russia’s grand strategy at the end of the Second World War was to establish a buffer between herself and the unpredictable powers in Europe. To that end, the lands between Russia and western Europe were absorbed into what became known as the Soviet Union. Thus began the Cold War, a time when diplomacy failed and armed conflict was a very real possibility.Or was it?For all that the Soviet Union comprised of vast lands â€" approximat ely 1/6 of the earth’s habitable territory, it had vast  natural resources but few skilled enough to work them; a dire situation made worse by a faltering economy. And, although Russian leaders enjoyed a show of might, they actually had little the way of materials or money with which to build up military power. The end of the Cold War came about when the people behind the Iron Curtain grew so restless that Russia’s imperialism could not withstand their multi-pronged assault.Following the Cold War, Russia and associated nation-states endured an economic recession that lasted nearly a decade; some countries are still trying to recover from the economic devastation they suffered during the Cold War.As for the former Soviet Union, she’s doing only okay. She has as her head of state a crafty man who knows how to command attention; in fact, that is a major part of his foreign policy! In our Russian Geopolitics study, you can find out how Mr Putin is influencing international developmen t.Asian GeopoliticsMany people embroiled in the study of political science and international relations wonder why Soviet leaders did not more forcefully pursue their alliance with China. The fact is that the Chinese leader felt that the philosophies evolving in Russia undermined the purity of the Leninist doctrine â€" the catalyst that led to the Sino-Soviet split.Immediately after breaking off relations, Mao Ze Dong gave up on foreign affairs to focus exclusively on his vast nation-state. His  brand of nationalism proved to be particularly damaging as international institutions repeatedly condemned his practices. His successor saw China’s potential for global leadership early on; in fact, he could hardly wait to open up, welcoming international organizations and taking part in global economic affairs.Today, thanks to Deng Xiao Ping’s vision, President Xi Jinping has the power (and the capital) to tap emerging markets as far away as Venezuela, making China one of the fastest risin g stars of global governance.By no means is China the only influencer in Asia; other regional powers give the largest country in Eurasia a run for its money in world affairs...Do you know who the other heavy hitters in Asia are?Water scarcity is an increasing concern that impacts global affairs Source: Pixabay Credit: J ConegoGeopolitics in Latin AmericaAs mentioned before, China is making inroads in far-flung places such as Africa and even in South America.South America, like other regions, is a collection of nations bound by geography as well as history. These countries share several cultural elements such as language and religion. Many of them also enjoy multilateral relations through the World Trade Organisation but, as far as  their political economy, it lags behind other countries of similar development. The reason for it is that most of the population, especially in South America, is dotted along the coastline, with little development made inland â€" meaning that coastal region s have significant infrastructural development while inner provinces are nearly primaeval.Learn how Latin America's energy security outshines the rest of the world in  our longer exposé of that region's geopolitics. In Summary:Western Europe’s liberalism contrasts with the ethnic conflict and civil wars that plague African nations. Meanwhile, Russia still struggles to prove itself a leading world power. The rise of China and her perceived hegemonic tendencies clash with their constructivism and world economic endeavours â€" providing financing and resources to undeveloped countries. In our globalized world, policymakers no longer think in terms of deterrence so much as conflict management and cooperation. And, if we’re really lucky, they aim for conflict resolution.Still, flareups do occur, even in these times post-Cold War, when the threat of nuclear annihilation was at its highest.Military buildup in the South China Sea, North Korea (and the U.S.) bragging of missiles, jihadist groups still active...With all of these diverging factions, is it really possible to hope for an end to international conflict and strive for peace and security?

5 Reasons Why Youre Bored at Work - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / 5 Reasons Why You’re Bored at Work - Introvert Whisperer 5 Reasons Why You’re Bored at Work If you find yourself often bored at work, perhaps even most of the time, then you’re not alone. Many of us spend big chunks of our waking hours disengaged in what we’re doing, just going through the motions because that’s what we need to do in order to achieve certain results and earn a living wage. But constant boredom at work can gnaw at you. It makes life dull and unfulfilling. So in order to find a career that you look forward to waking up to, instead of dreading, it helps to know exactly why you’re bored at work. And there seem to be five main reasons why your job makes you watch the clock for the day to end, rather than fully engage your focus and energy. The work is uninteresting If you find that your work is uninteresting, then it’s going to be a real struggle to commit your full attention to it. Obviously, life can’t be interesting all of the time. There are certain mundane things that we have to do that we can’t drop just because we find them mundane. But when we’re talking about our jobs â€" which we spend 7+ hours a day doing â€" then it’s a different matter altogether. Also, there are uninteresting things we simply have to do (such as doing our tax returns), whereas we have a large degree of autonomy when it comes to our career choices. If you’re bored at work, then it may be the case that you have a job that doesn’t match your interests. There has to be at least some aspect of your job that interests you â€" the industry, company, tasks, goals, work environment or the people you work with â€" in order to feel engaged and content with what you’re doing. The work is uncreative  You may also be bored at work if you’re not able to find a creative outlet. Some of us are more inclined towards creative pursuits than others. However, having opportunities to devise and manifest original ideas is an important part of what makes work a worthwhile activity. If your work has little room for innovation, imagination, and individual input, then it will feel grey and be stifling. There’s nothing wrong doing rule-bound, routine tasks â€" they’re often necessary. But when a job is completely devoid of creativity, it can become tedious and unpleasant. The work isn’t meaningful  Meaningful work is work that makes a difference in some way or another. As humans, we strive to find meaning in our lives, and when it’s absent, we feel dissatisfied. Boredom at work could, therefore, arise from the feeling that your job is not adding value to anyone’s life or to society at large. Staving off boredom at work requires us to do tasks that can affect positive change in the world and that allow us to see the fruits of our labour. This doesn’t mean you have to become a renowned environmental campaigner or human rights lawyer. If you can help provide people with a valuable product or service that improves their lives, and can receive positive feedback about doing so, then this is also meaningful.   The work isn’t challenging enough Without challenges in our lives, we don’t grow. And work is no exception. If your job isn’t bringing out your potential and challenging you to achieve much more than you currently are, then the work can start to feel pointless and aimless. Of course, work can be challenging if you have a lot of hours to work, a lot of tasks to juggle, and a tyrannical micromanaging boss to deal with. But these aren’t the kinds of challenges that stop people feeling bored and that help them grow. They wear employees out. What you may really need to feel absorbed in your work is responsibility for a project or the development of a new skill. You’re behind a desk all day  Some of us get incredibly bored sitting behind a desk all day. Even if you spend some time chatting with co-workers, an office job may still mean that the majority of your day is sitting down, staring at a computer screen. If you’re more of the active type and feel chained to your desk, then it’s worth following a career path that allows you to work with your hands, move around a lot, be out and about or interact with people more.   Author Bio: Sam Woolfe writes for Inspiring Interns, which specialises in sourcing candidates for  internships  and  graduate jobs. Vocal Audition Crimes 3 Mistakes That Turn Judges Off

Vocal Audition Crimes 3 Mistakes That Turn Judges Off Suzy S. Have an audition coming up? You may know what TO do, but what about what NOT to do? Take a look at these tips for singing auditions in this guest post by Glendale, CA voice teacher Ben M... Let’s face it: auditions are nerve-wracking. Youre presenting your talent for somebody elses approval, and thats not easy to do. But auditions can also be a ton of fun and lead to amazing changes in your life. It’s incredibly important to make auditions a habit, even if you’re happy with where you are in your singing career. The more auditions you attend, the easier it will be to convince yourself to go to the audition in the first place, the better you will perform, and the more likely any given audition will lead to the result you want.  We’ve already covered the things you SHOULD do at an audition in a previous post. Here are the top three vocal audition crimes to avoid. 1. Letting Your Fear Take Over A teacher once had to convince me that my anxiety over auditioning has exactly 0% benefit to my performance. Many of us believe that our anxiety will somehow prepare us to perform and will cause us to do a better job because we “take it more seriously.” But theres a difference between anticipation and anxiety. It’s great to be mentally prepared and aware of what will be expected of you at an audition. But the moment it crosses over to stress, you’re wasting valuable physical and emotional energy. You’ve crossed over to the dark side, where you’re now faced with the risk of psyching yourself out, forgetting your lyrics, or creating unnecessary tension in your voice. If you find yourself in this position, take a deep breath, count to 10, remind yourself that it’s just an audition, and RELAX. Just as with vocalization, the only way to see the results you want is to let go and allow your body to arrive at and STAY at a place of rest. 2. Not Knowing Your Words By Heart There’s never an excuse not to know your lyrics at an audition. In fact, there’s every reason to ensure you know them by heart. It’s not just to prove you know the words â€" it’s about internalizing the song and spending time with it, which is one of the important tips for singing well. Once you learn how to efficiently memorize lyrics, it can actually be quite fun. The process allows you to apply your own voice to the song and make little changes in phrasing and intonation. Methods vary depending on how you learn best, but I have always found that memorizing a song line by line yields the quickest results. Sing through one line of a song until you know it, then start from the top of the song and sing up to the line you just learned. It may seem like it takes longer this way, but you’ll find that you internalize the tune much faster. Remember to do your core memorization at least one night before â€" you’ll find that the words come much easier the next day. Related Video: The Best Audition Songs for Every Voice Type 3. Going Too Far Out Of Your Sweet Spot Not everybody agrees with me here, but an audition is not the time to try something you’ve never done before. Nor is it the time to try to sound like somebody you have never sounded like. It’s tempting for singers to go over the top and show the outermost range of what they can do, but the problem with this is that you are exposing your limits to the folks auditioning you. In the process, you’re taking the attention away from what it is you do best. When an audition notice asks to “see your range,” be smart about your choices. Make sure that your audition piece is 90% in your sweet spot â€" the tried and true range and timbre of your voice. If you like, you can add a few special embellishments that show the tip of the iceberg, but don’t make that uncharted territory the meat of your audition. Besides the weakness-exposure factor, you’ll find that whatever anxiety you do carry into the audition will not work in your favor if you’re trying to hit higher notes or mask yo ur voice with a tone that isn’t yours. Lastly, don’t go at it alone!  Consulting a vocal coach is a necessity before attending a big audition. Besides helping you brush up on technique, a good coach will also be able to critique your audition and help you pinpoint weak spots, preparing you for an easy audition process that you can repeat again and again. The Ultimate Guide to Singing Styles, Types, and Genres

The Ultimate Guide to Singing Styles, Types, and Genres Sign up successful But several pop singers have come to be considered the greatest entertainers of all time, including Whitney Houston, Madonna, Prince, and the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Tips Vocal Exercises for Pop Singers Learn how to control your vibrato without tension. Experiment with different vocal sounds, like short, popping sounds and fast runs. Focus on improving your movement on stage and take dance lessons, if necessary. Famous Pop Singers Tori Kelly Tori  chose a really high key for this  song. She also chose to accentuate the lyrics of the song with a short, light texture in her voice. That kind of texture makes everything easier to sing in your high register. Whitney Houston At 2:05 in this video, Whitney  uses a fast run on the end of the word all. Notice how she doesnt make it overly dramatic, and uses those runs only a few times in the song? Sometimes, too many runs can be distracting from the songs message. Bruno Mars Bruno  sings tenderly because its a tender song. His voice is so free of tension that he seems to float up into his falsetto. Rock You might be surprised  to learn that rock is a grandchild of the blues. After it became heavier and more dance-ably rhythmic, the music began to rock and rock and roll was born! It grew up to become rougher and edgier, and now, rock vocal sounds are as diverse as in any other genre. Today, rock singers include voices as different as Adam Lambert, Tom Araya  of  Slayer, James Hetfield of Metallica, and Bono of U2. But that rougher and edgier part of rock has to be, at least in some ways, a defining characteristic of the rock voice. Otherwise, it might be confused with an adult contemporary or pop voice. Tips Vocal Exercises for Rock Singers Try out different vocal flairs, like a little growling or vocal fry at the end of song sections, but dont overdo it. Get comfortable singing a huge range of dynamics, from whispers (used sparingly for the health of your voice) to healthy, supported shouting. Dont be afraid of your own vibrato. Famous Rock  Singers Freddie Mercury Freddie Mercury was known for quite a theatrical kind of rock. Notice how easily he  transitions from one dynamic to another, using subtlety when its needed for effect, and rough growling when the lyrics call for it, like at 2:20. John Fogerty John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival sings this song with the emotional sense of defiance. He clearly has a hold of being what we now call a singing actor, though its doubtful that the vocals were planned as such. Ann Wilson The lead singer of Heart, paying tribute to Led Zeppelin, keeps a true sense of her own voice but doesnt change the vocals so much that its disrespectful to the original. Shes clearly not afraid of her own vibrato, using it as a tool to accentuate certain lyrics, like at 4:24. Bonus Quiz:  What Genre Are You Destined to Sing?   Opera and Classical Often considered the most formal and restrictive of all genres of singing, classical and opera singing actually require the greatest amount of freedom. Much of it is sung with uncontrolled vibrato and total emotional release. It is, however, the least conversational of all genres. Because it lacks the intimacy of that conversational quality with the audience (think folk music), it has the tendency to give audiences the impression of admiring a beautiful painting from afar. The classical genre  includes secular arias and religious oratorios, as well as motets. Opera singing is similar, but its part of a stage production, often involving dancing and speaking parts. Think of opera as a musical with classical singing instead of Broadway-style singing. Tips Vocal Exercises for Opera Singers Dont try to sound how you think an opera singer sounds. Sing with an open and free voice. Vibrato sometimes develops over time as we let go of more and more tension. Dont force it or try to create it. Get a voice teacher. Soon. Opera singing can seldom be taught without a good teacher.   Famous Opera and Classical Singers Bryn Terfel In this incredibly dramatic scene from Mozarts interpretation of the Don Juan story, Bryn Terfel is the actor in the reddish-brown cloak. Watch how intense and exaggerated his facial expressions are throughout the scene. Kiri Te Kanawa Singing one of the best-loved arias ever written, here is one of the best-loved sopranos to have ever lived. She is an incredible example of how you can sing beautifully through your entire life if you take good care of your voice. Marian Anderson Marian Andersons distinguished career is marked not only by fantastic singing, but also by courageous defiance in the face of racism. Her voice is flawless, in spite of the shortcomings of the old recordings, but more importantly, her heart can be heard in everything she sings. In the video above, she sang for a beautiful Christmas program. Notice her alignment and how it remains consistent throughout the changes in the song. Country An overly simple way to think of the country genre is fancy folk. But its had quite a history through the years, having evolved from Appalachian mountain music, southern blues, country-western and whats called honky-tonk. I recommending listening  to many different country voices so that you dont get into the trap of imitating only the big voices. Think about how different Carrie Underwoods voice is from Miranda Lamberts. Check out the differences between Hank Williams, Jr. and Luke Bryan. And dont forget to listen to classic singers like Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline. Tips Vocal Exercises for Country Singers Dont force a country accent. If you listen to a lot of country music, over time, a natural twang will come when you sing. Become familiar with great storytelling; thats where country comes from! Listen to professional storytellers on YouTube. Be willing to wear your heart on your sleeve. Audiences love when country singers share their feelings, and your credibility  is based on your ability to be genuine. Famous Country  Singers George Jones In one of the most famous country songs of all time, the irreplaceable George Jones exemplifies the all-important skills of storytelling and a down-to-earth singing style. Notice that there isnt a lot of vibrato here; its almost as if Jones is too busy telling a story to hold out a note and show off! Carrie Underwood Both this song and video are great examples of country. Carrie, season 4 winner of American Idol, knows just how to use her voice to a songs advantage. She floats a note (sings it lightly) when its a tender moment and then sings with a heavier tone when its a heavier moment. Loretta Lynn The ultimate story song, Coal Miners Daughter, was Loretta Lynns biggest hit. Take note of how similar her speaking voice (at the beginning of the video) is to her singing voice. This can be achieved through the study of something called speech level singing. Blues and Jazz The blues were born in the American south from the spirituals of slaves and the call-and-response music of the Southern church. Think of jazz as its slightly more sophisticated child who never forgot its roots. Jazz singing is characterized by clear, speech level singing and distinct consonants, while blues singing has a rough or rootsy edge to it, sometimes with a natural Southern accent. Tips Vocal Exercises for Blues Singers You cant sing the blues and jazz right without knowing its history. Watch Ken Burns Jazz documentary and the Thelonius Monk documentary, Straight, No Chaser. Experiment with different vocal sounds, like pitch slides and scatting. Study up on your music theory, especially your chromatic scales. Famous Blues and Jazz  Singers Cassandra Wilson Though she may not be the best-selling jazz artist, Cassandra Wilson is considered by many to  be the best living jazz singer. Her voice is perfect for it rich, thoughtful, and focused.  Notice how around 3:05, she  begins to use pitch slides. Sarah Vaughan Once described as having one of the most wondrous voices of the 20th century, Sarah Vaughan was known for a sensitive but easy tone. At 2:15, she effortlessly shows off an impressive vocal range and some great improvisation skills. Louis Armstrong Louis Armstrong is so important to jazz music that most experts agree it wouldnt have been developed, or even survived, without his contributions. Here we have a great example of a singer who loved what he did and knew how to make people feel happy and entertained. Hip Hop Hip hop, the heavily rhythmic and rhyming singing that often accompanies rapping and beat-boxing, emerged  in the 1970s, and has grown steadily in popularity since then. In fact, that popularity has turned into tremendous influence on other singing genres, including pop and country. Its origins are many, but the most apparent are funk, disco, reggae, and the blues. Singers of hip hop are diverse, but the singing generally takes on edgy and sometimes nasal qualities. Tips Vocal Exercises for Hip Hop Singers Know hip hops musical ancestry. Listen to a lot of funk, disco, reggae, soul, gospel, blues, and old-school hip hop. You dont have to become a rapper, but get comfortable switching between singing and speaking lyrics to help your versatility. Dont be afraid to experiment with different vocal sounds, like nasality and wordplay, to create your own signature style. Famous Hip Hop  Singers Lauryn Hill See if you can hear the songs Spanish and gospel influences. Despite these varied sounds, Lauryn  stays true to her own voice, which is stunningly consistent in tone and texture. Its important to listen to influences with respect, without allowing it to pressure you to imitate. Beyonce In this  heart-stopping acoustic performance of her hit Halo, Beyonce has full command of her voice. Its as if her voice is an arrow, she aims at the bulls eye, and hits it every time. In other words, her pitch is always right and her transition between the lower register in the verses and the upper register in the chorus is seamless. Cee Lo Green Originally, the hit Crazy was created and released by Gnarls Barkley, a musical duo consisting of rapper and hip hop singer Cee Lo Green and producer Danger Mouse. In this video, Cee Lo  sings the song at a much slower tempo than the original, allowing for a lot of time for both the performer and the listener to really think about the meaningful lyrics. Adult Contemporary Adult contemporary is such a unique genre, because singers from relatively different genres often get put into this camp as well, or end up here at the height of their career. Its essentially pop singing, but the lyrics are decidedly grown-up, or adult.  Adult contemporary has been called vanilla, bland and boring, but often, the most magnificent songs ever are forever embedded in its charts. Tips Vocal Exercises for Adult Contemporary Singers Learn how to sing consistently with a well-supported sound and power will come naturally. Get into the habit of speaking the lyrics of the song out loud before singing them. Dont add too many effects to your voice; singing with whatever you have, in its truest form, is adult contemporary. Famous Adult Contemporary  Singers Bruce Hornsby This is a classic example of an adult contemporary theme â€" the songwriters here are reflecting on their own lives and on life in general. Bruce Hornsbys easy, almost-nonchalant style comes across as utterly conversational, perfect for singing about down-to-earth themes. Amy Grant Amy Grant successfully crossed over from contemporary Christian music (which she practically created herself) to pop and adult contemporary. All the while, she never really changed her vocal sound. Throughout this video, she uses dynamics to her advantage to highlight certain words. Lists of Musical Genres Of course, thats not all! 6 Tips for Assembling a Christmas Caroling Group

6 Tips for Assembling a Christmas Caroling Group Sign up successful With very little effort, even a small group of people can have a positive impact on their fellow citizens during a time that can be tough on a lot of us. Most of us know that how fun and rewarding it can be, but maybe not how exactly to get a caroling team together. Here are my tips for assembling a Christmas caroling group. • Choose the right nights. You may never get all of your neighbors home on the same night, but there are definitely those evenings when most folks will stay in, like Christmas Eve or even the night of the 23rd. Check with your local paper or city website to be sure that there arent any large events going on the night (or nights!) of your planned caroling, like a Christmas parade or a tree lighting.  Otherwise, you may find yourselves singing to a lot of empty houses.  And if  you plan to sing at nursing homes or local hospitals, call each of them to check on their rules  and available dates and times for visiting groups like yours. • Recruit your singers. Print out simple, festive fliers announcing an open call for singers and post it at your local high  schools, colleges, churches, and community centers. List your email address and  the dates that you plan on caroling. For safety reasons, be careful not to list too much personal  information, like your home address or full name. Of course, if you have a family, a group of  neighbors, or church members who already want to form a group, then you have a core team. But why not recruit more singers? I have a feeling that the phrase the more, the  merrier came from the Christmas caroling tradition. • Plan a couple of rehearsals. On those nights mentioned above where theres a big local event and most people are out  and about, plan your rehearsals. You may not be able to get every singer to every rehearsal; just do your best. Christmas caroling isnt about a perfect choir sound, its about spreading joy. So these get-togethers should be easy, simply a chance to bring your sound together. • Decide on your set list. Focus on choosing Christmas carol songs that most of your singers know well by taking a survey at your first  rehearsal. You wouldnt want to turn your fun, laid-back rehearsals into sight singing boot camp  sessions where everyones struggling through the music. Simple and happy is the name of the  game. You shouldnt even have a formal order of songs.  A leader of the group should choose  songs moment by moment and venue by venue, depending on the vibe. That might mean bright  and vibrant carols at a childrens hospital, and mellow and reverent songs at a veterans home, or vice  versa! • Assemble and distribute music. Print out copies of the Christmas carol songs that youve chosen and place them into small, inexpensive  binders. Everyone could highlight his or her part in the music (soprano, alto, tenor, or bass) and any  solos. • Bring scarves, a pitch pipe, and tea. If you live in a region of the world that experiences cold temperatures during Advent and  Christmas, then before your Christmas caroling group heads out, be sure that every singer brings  a scarf to keep the old voice boxes warm. The skin that covers them is thin and delicate. Tumblers of chai tea, which is full of anti-inflammatory power to keep vocal swelling down, are a fun option. Never forget that your primary focus is spreading good cheer and good will to your community.  While we should always strive to do our best, the only way to ruin your caroling adventures is to  take the whole thing too seriously. Keep calm, and carol on. Heather L. teaches singing, piano, acting, and more in St. Augustine, FL, as well as through online lessons.
